In Bluecore, there are various levels of email subscription status for any given customer. These statuses, described in detail below, are used to determine which customers meet email eligibility criteria for certain email campaign types (promotional/batch and triggered) and ensure compliance with consumer privacy laws, such as GDPR, CCPA, and CAN-SPAM.
Opted-in: Explicit consent from a customer. A customer has entered an email address on a subscription form or preference center, electing to receive email communications from your brand; the customer is opted-in and not unsubscribed.
Known: A customer that has been identified, but has neither opted-in nor unsubscribed. Some brands choose to include this group of customers in certain marketing messages (for example, triggered emails) while maintaining compliance with privacy laws.
Unsubscribed: A customer has elected to no longer receive email marketing messages from your brand. This typically occurs when a customer performs an unsubscribe action via an unsubscribe link in an email or a preference center, therefore they are no longer subscribed.
ACCOUNT-LEVEL SETTINGS
Email eligibility settings are configured by campaign type at the account-level. View your settings for each campaign type by navigating to the flag icon on the left-hand side > Communicate > Communicate Settings > Email Eligibility. The triggered email settings are configured during onboarding and can be updated any time by contacting your Customer Success Manager. Promotional/Batch settings are always set to be opted-in. Settings are automatically applied to all campaigns. Learn more about each of the settings below.
Promotional/Batch: Emails are only sent to customers that are opted-in and have not unsubscribed from emails. This setting can not be modified, as it is configured to ensure compliance with consumer privacy laws.
Triggered: Choose whether explicit opt-in status is required for your triggered emails. If you do not require explicit opt-in status, your triggered emails will be sent to any users that are not unsubscribed (i.e. all known or opted-in users).
CAMPAIGN-LEVEL SETTINGS
Email eligibility settings that are applied in the account-level settings are automatically applied based on the campaign type when creating a new campaign.
Please be aware that all audience-level email eligibility filters are ignored when a campaign is deployed, and only the account- and campaign-level (promotional/trigger) eligibility rules are honored in the final deployment.
Here's an example scenario:
Account-level setting is set to: triggered = Must be opted-in unchecked.
Audience email eligibility is set to opted-in.
Campaign is set up as designation triggered.
Therefore, the campaign will be deployed to all opted-in and known records in the audience.
FAQ
Q: What is the email eligibility status for an uploaded email list?
A: When an email list is uploaded and used within a Bluecore audience, the email eligibility settings that are configured on the account-level will be automatically applied based on the campaign type, sending emails to those who meet the email eligibility requirements. If a customer is not marked as opted-in or unsubscribed, then the customer will be categorized as known.
Q: What if the audience-level filter is different than the campaign type I’ve selected?
A: When adding an audience to a campaign, any previously configured email eligibility settings configured on the account-level will override any audience-level filtering.
